We just posted up a new blog. http://t.co/G1y4l3ly http://t.co/QwwL3RC8
It was Friday the 19th of March a day we all been looking forward to, we been trying to get a show in Brighton for a few years now, Brighton is a very tight shut off city for outsiders, you either have to be super famouse, local, or have bumbed (quite easy in brighton apparently) to get a good show. We managed to get a slot with SKA BAR, who run ska nights at the Latest Music Venue in Brighton. http://www.skabar.co.uk/. These guys were cool, they put alot of effort into the show with the promotion as well as giving the first 50 people a free goodie bag, filled with stickers, badges, a mix tape of the bands and flyers etc. Usualy promoters shift you about ask for money, get you to sound check then forget you exist, not the case with these guys.
The tusty tour bus out of action we had to take two cars, Sel and Chris car to be exact. On the way there, we pulled up at some red lights near the motor way, Chris beeped his horn at Sel, who took it the wrong way and drove trough the red lights thinking he was being moved on, only realising half way into the main road that he was about to be ramed with trafic, quickly he put the car into reverse in a horde of car horns. Posibly one of the funnyest things we seen in a while. There was a woman and kid trying to cross the road they looked at his car and shook their heads.
We goto Brighton for around 6, and a further half hour to find the venue, swear the sat nav has issues it kept taking us in loops around the same building, well cut this short story shorter we found the venue.
The venue, was very posh and clean, our feet didnt stick to the floor, were not used to this sort of venue, if it dosnt smell like wet dog, and stale cider we tend to get asked to leave. the venue looked awesome, there was avatar like 3d art to the left of the stage, houses with lights behind them. This was very cool.
The stage was really big, with a back door to a band room, which was full of crap, after pissing into a sink only to find a toilet just behind a mirror. Really shouldnt have mentioned the sink pissing, but you know where punk and all that its what we do, Simon once kicked a Snow man over, he’s punk as fudge or just a big snowman bully.
These guys had traveled down from South London to play the show. They kind of reminded me of Light Year on appreience, they were whereing capes lol or something I cant remember but it was funny.
They didnt have their full line up :( they were still waiting on their Trombone player. Althrough they prity much had every brass/woodwind player in the world on one stage. Really enjoyed these guys, they had loads of energy and jumped about but manage keep their set together. Finaly around their 4th song there long awaited trombone player ran in and joined them onstage. Think their set was cut short due to time but all in all they rocked out and we Enjoyed them. http://www.myspace.com/scaredycats
The Venue was starting to pack out, people were flooding in, even Ich from king Blues, which was awesome as were pritty big fans Of the King Blues.
We did some warm ups in the Band room which mainly evolved showing off our guns in the mirror and sink pissing.
We played an awesome show, loads of people were dancing and getting into the music, as well as having some great banter with our selves and the crowed. One we kind of regret, as we passed Havent ont the way down to Brighton, Tetley asked Chris if he has ever been there he stated “I HAVENT”.
After we played we were hanging out the back with the brass section from The Hotknives, we didnt realise they used to play for madness as well…SICK
These guys were on next, they were from Nothampton and played Dance hall Ska. These guys were rocking, the singer’s voice reminded me of the Police but not as high like a lower version. There was alot of danceing at this point thats why there is a lack of content in this part.
If you want to have a dance then check these guys out. http://www.myspace.com/thebigheaduk
The hotknives are local SKA Legends, playing dancy, 3rd wave SKA. They had the trumpet play on loan from Madness. These guys had a strange following of over 40′s who enjoyed to mosh. They were going mental on the dance floor, it got to a point where a lady mosher pushed one of them and they all toppled over like dominos.
At this point we had to sit down as we had been dancing for almost an hour. Really enjoyed these guys and want to play some more shows with them. Check them out http://www.myspace.com/thehotknives
Our frist show in Brighton was awesome, it was stupidly busy, the bands were awesome and the promoter’s were friendly. Think we met more contacts and famouse people in 1 day then we have in 4 years. Hopefully we get some more shows in Brighton so all the people that came along can come have some more funtimes.
We got home around 5am, to to find Tetley’s guitar had gone missing… This is a another story tho…….
